The Journey to Re-Connexion

Meet Founder of Re-Connexion: Jake Cooper. In July 2017, Jake was involved in a life-changing car accident. At just 21, he sustained severe injuries, including a brain injury, multiple fractures, and lasting pain. Told that he might never walk again, he fought through the physical and psychological battles that followed. But in 2020, everything changed.

Jake found a personal trainer who understood the struggles of a life changing injury, and with his support, Jake began to rebuild his life. That experience not only changed his body – it gave him the tools to heal his mind, restore confidence, and reclaim his strength.

THE START OF RE-CONNEXION

“My personal story is why I started Reconnexion – to help others on their own journey of recovery. I want to share the tools that helped me regain my life and provide a supportive space for those who’ve faced trauma, brain injury, or simply need to find the strength to move forward.”

In July 2017, at the age of 21, I was a front-seat passenger in a car that collided with a tree at 70mph. I sustained multiple traumatic injuries, including a head injury, spinal fractures, a broken arm, blood clots, a broken left leg and ankle, and an open fracture of my right lower leg. I underwent multiple surgeries over several years. At the time, I was told I might never walk properly again, and I had written myself off.

However, my journey was far from over - it had only just begun.

My recovery was filled with challenges. I struggled with psychological stress, including the frustration of not being able to do the things I once could. I endured ongoing pain, limited mobility, and the breakdown of relationships with friends and family. The countless hospital visits took a toll on me, leaving me in a dark place for years after the accident.

That changed in 2020 when I started training at the gym with an incredible personal trainer. They understood me on a deep level and could empathise with my struggles, having faced a similar situation themselves. Over the next two years, my recovery improved drastically. I felt confident and happy again, and my desire to socialise returned. I became stronger, healthier, and far more mobile. My pain levels decreased, and my stamina reached an all-time high. These changes gave me the tools I needed to rebuild myself and finally escape the dark cloud that had followed me since the accident. For the first time in years, I felt reconnected to my body.

Through this journey, I learned so much about myself. My personal trainer’s support was life-changing, and I knew it was now my duty to help others going through similar experiences.

Looking back at how far I’ve come, I know I couldn’t have done it without someone who believed in me - someone I truly connected with. Now, I want to be that person for my clients.
