Jake’s Personal Story

Jake's Personal Rehabilitation Story: From Trauma to Transformation

In July 2017, at just 21 years old, my life changed in an instant. I was a front-seat passenger in a car that collided with a tree at 70mph. The impact was devastating. I suffered multiple traumatic injuries, including a serious head injury, fractures to my spine, a broken arm, multiple blood clots, a broken left leg and ankle, and an open fracture of my right lower leg. The surgeries that followed spanned several years, and at one point, I was told that I might never walk properly again. That was the moment I felt like my life had been written off.

But the journey wasn’t over - it was only just beginning.

The Road to Recovery

The aftermath of my accident was more than just physical pain. The emotional and psychological toll was equally, if not more, challenging. I struggled with frustration - frustration at not being able to do the things I once took for granted, at feeling trapped inside a body that no longer felt like my own. Pain and lack of mobility were constant battles. Friendships faded as I withdrew from the world, unable to keep up with the social life I once had. Countless hospital visits became my new normal. I was stuck in a dark place for years, unable to see a way out.

Then, in 2020, everything changed.

Finding Strength in Training

I decided to take control of my recovery and began working with a personal trainer. This wasn’t just any coach - this was someone who had been through a similar journey. Someone who understood the physical pain, the emotional struggles, and the feeling of being lost. They gave me more than just workouts; they gave me hope.

For the next two years, I trained consistently, rebuilding not just my body, but my confidence, my mindset, and my sense of self. I became stronger, healthier, and more mobile than I ever imagined possible. My pain decreased, my stamina soared, and I felt connected to my body in a way I hadn’t since before the accident. The impact on my mental well-being was just as profound - I felt happier, more social, and full of purpose again.

From Client to Coach

Looking back at the progress I made, I knew I couldn’t keep this experience to myself. I had gained not just strength and mobility but also invaluable insight into what it takes to come back from trauma. It became clear that my purpose was to help others going through similar struggles - to show them that they are not alone and that there is a way forward.

That’s why I now dedicate my work to supporting others through Brain Injury Rehabilitation and Personal Training. My approach isn’t just about physical transformation; it’s about rebuilding confidence, regaining independence, and reconnecting with yourself after trauma.

How I Help My Clients

Brain Injury Rehabilitation

Having personally experienced a brain injury, I deeply empathise with clients who face neurological symptoms. I understand how these symptoms impact motivation, confidence, and attitude towards exercise. Many of my clients are also navigating complex legal processes, which is why I work closely with case managers, occupational therapists, and other professionals to ensure they are supported every step of the way. By building strong rapport, I help my clients see that there is hope beyond their injury and that progress - both physical and mental - is possible.

Personal Training

My personal training style is a fusion of the methods I’ve learned from multiple trainers, combined with my own lived experience of rehabilitation. It’s not just about going through the motions - I teach my clients the mechanics behind movements, the importance of form, and how to maximise their potential. Whether the goal is weight loss, strength training, or overall fitness, I help clients create sustainable habits that extend beyond the gym.
